Yes. Very probably. A remember that I have read in some README, that if you 
set your card type wrong for bttv, then video will probably work (because all 
those cards have the same chipset for video), only the audio will fail.

Try to set a different card type in /etc/modules.conf
Read the bttv documentation in kernel-doc
