Of course, you need to learn Qt. Please download the latest Qt Creator and
Qt Library and you can then checkout KStars from git and start hacking!

You will need a modern distro that support KDE 5 (such as Kubuntu 14.10 or
15.04), below are some instructions to build latest KStars from GIT:
