[Kstars-devel] Standalone Windows Installer for KStars -- any volunteers?

Hi

There has been lot of discussion about making a KDE Edu installer /
installers for KDE Edu applications on Windows, that are standalone
and are "3 click". This was discussed at Akademy this year, and
looking at the notes from the Randa KDE Edu Sprint, it was also
discussed there:
http://community.kde.org/KDEEdu/Sprint2012/WindowsNotes

I feel that this is of prime importance for KStars. A very large
fraction of our potential user base actively uses Windows. KStars is
probably one of the most feature-rich free astronomy software out
there, coming close to even commercial software in certain aspects.

Now, there is no ideal solution to a perfect KDE Windows installer
that can be specialized / scripted to install specific modules as yet.

Two solutions are proposed by the KDE Windows team:

1. One solution is to use CMake / CPack to generate a NullSoft
Scriptable Install System (NSIS) based Windows Installer.

2. The other solution is because KDE Apps do not use Windows Registry
entries, you could install KStars on Windows, and then just repack
   the components into an installer.

I'm just throwing this idea at the list, to see if someone is
interested in working on this. I don't have easy access to a Windows
machine, and have been hence postponing figuring this out. Plus,
rather busy here since the semester has started.

Regards
Akarsh
