I was hoping to have everything ready by Sept 15 which is the proposed
beginning of the debian freeze process for the next release, though in
practice we probably have a bit more time up our sleeves.

That would be wonderful if you could, if for no other reason than the fact
that you know the source code much more intimately than I do.

That sounds like a great idea.  I'd be happy to wait for KDE 3.2 except
that ATM it looks like there won't be time to wait for KDE 3.2 before
the next debian release.
