Imagine making an image of some angle - like magnetic field direction.
 0 deg and 360 degrees are the same angle; a traditional spectrum has
a discontinuity at one end of the color range, so 359 degrees would
look much different than 1 deg.
This color pallet doesn't have a discontinuity at the ends, so
visually, 359 degrees and 1 degree would have a similar color.
