The first one listed in the 'format' file is the one that is needed.

Perhaps, but I think that we want to move to the new .mdt style format for 
written files before we add writing - the big problem with PutData is that it 
doesn't (and perhaps shouldn't) modify 'format'

There is an architectual issue here in kst - DataSources don't know what you 
are going to read from them....  We may change this. (I think we need to...)
