It sounds like there is a problem reading/recognizing the format file...

Is Opteron big or little-endian?  All dirfile binary files should be stored 
little-endian.  Unfortunately, the getdata.h and getdata.c files in kst do 
not include the endian swapping found in my dirfile library here:

This is probably not the problem in this case however...

Barth-  we should really merge getdata.h/getdata.c with dirfile.h/dirfile.c.  
I'll look into it this weekend if I have time...
