Dear Kolab users!

Yesterday OpenPKG 2.0 was released, see Press Release
http://www.openpkg.org/press/PR-005-openpkg-2.0.html

This release contains the results of all the integration work that was
done in the past five+ months. All the Kolab extensions and changes
that were made to forked packages were merged back into OpenPKG. Also
a OpenPKG package "kolab" was added which is based on the genuine
Erfrakon/Intevation Kroupware project and has the Code Fusion engine
replacement added.

In addition, the ZfOS web/ftp site was updated and comes with Kolab
packages and a installer which together come very close to a turnkey
system, see http://www.zfos.org

Please note that the release of OpenPKG 2.0 voids support for OpenPKG
1.2 and older. The pristine Kolab 1.0.8 is based on unreleased and
unsupported code (from a OpenPKG perspective) that mostly comes from
OpenPKG 1.1 and older times. Think about the consequences!

It is important to understand that ZfOS today uses pure-OpenPKG 2.0
packges. This was the ultimate goal of this endeavor. Kolab users
moving to this version automatically inherit security updates created
by OpenPKG. Updates can be simply installed as ...-2.0.x packages
when they become available. Security adivsories are announced on
openpkg-announce at openpkg.org so it is highly recommended to that list [1].

Unfortunately, there is no tested and documented upgrade path from
"Kolab 1.0.x" (based on OpenPKG ~1.1) to OpenPKG 2.0 (including Kolab
1.0.8). IT IS NOT A MATTER OF JUST INSTALLING THE LATEST PACKAGES!
Whoever wants to dive into that topic please read the news.txt [2]
and upgrade.txt [3] documents to understand what's new and important
for *OpenPKG* upgrades. There is no documentation at all about what's
additionally new and important for *Kolab* upgrades. The community will
surely be glad to see such a document posted.

When reporting bugs or asking questions please think twice if they are
OpenPKG, Kolab, Code Fusion or ZfOS issues. The four have convoluted
relationships, so here is a guideline for picking the best support:

- obmtool installer and ZfOS http/ftp issues: drop me a mail
- package build/install issues: openpkg-users at openpkg.org
- setup/usage/admin/engine issues: kroupware at mail.kde.org

A final note about version numbers. The OpenPKG "kolab" package contains
multiple vendor sources whose versioning is not coordinated. This
requires the kolab package to use a unchained versioning scheme. Find
more details in the OpenPKG CVS commit log [4] and the ZfOS README [5].
