Mason is a particularly good choice for web development. This type of 
app will make great use of components and sub-components. It also will 
make great use of CPAN objets (if there is a iCal infrastructure as an 
object package there).
I won't be of any help for development, but agree on the technical 
choice (if my advice is of any help).
