I totally agree with this. 

There is just no way that distributions will accept installing a funny extra
packaging system on top of their own one. 

The current system is a massive hassle and completely nonstandard... The
primary supported method should be a set of patches to the upstream
packages, and the coordinator. Eventually, the patches should dwindle to
zero. This is easy for any distro to adopt. The current docs are totally
focused on OpenPKG, this will just turn off so many people who are
expecting a standard way of doing things. The argument that it can be
installed along side existing installs is moot, this can be acheived by
making different packages, eg apache-kolab, postfix-kolab, etc, or in some
package systems with relocation (rpm) or slots (portage).

If an openpkg based system is desired, it should not be a huge problem to
create one and maintain it in parallel. 

The fact is that almost nobody will end up using the OpenPKG stuff once this
is in distros, why bother making everyone reluctant to try it? I certainly
am, I don't really want to install another random packaging system. It just
makes my life harder.
