Hi,
i don't see the benefit of slp. I prefer svr records in dns.
allowing either or both is a good idea (but not top priority) IMO.
In addition i suggest automatic configuration:
ask the user for login and password, anon bind to ldap to find
the dn (do not ask for a complete dn like some ldap tools),
then authenticate bind with the dn and password,
and download that persons whole entry.
this way you should be able to generate a vcard from the ldap
record (for people who like sending these via email), and you
can also set values like Full user name and eMail address.
That makes implementing a company email address very easy.
Much easier then telling each person, what their email address
is supposed to be (underscrore, dot or minus between first an last
name?) and all that stuff.
The only thing i don't see is this:
free/busy can be published with ftp, but the ldap directory
will have an http record for downloading the schema.
Also ldap will list a free/busy url for anonymous authentication,
while setting some free/busy information might need a password.
Any idea how to solve that part?
Andreas
