I think you could use iCalendar VJOURNAL entries for notes.

I assume that this will only be a temporary state. It's obvious that we will 
not merge back a second copy of the KNotes code into HEAD. This part of the 
kroupware_branch is certainly a dead end.

If you use libkcal to store the notes the basic infrastructure for alarms is 
already done and you only have to add some GUI stuff for displaying the 
alarms, either by writing something KNotes specific or extend the KOrganizer 
alarmd daemon client.
