When you create a project management tool you have to think of the phases
a project has during its lifecyclus.
1. Project planning
1.1. Identify tasks (Work Breakdown Structur - WBS)
1.2. Identify dependencies between tasks
1.3. Identify ressources (Ressource Breakdown Structure - RBS)
1.4. Identify costs (Cost Breakdown Structure)
1.5. Identify external dependencies
1.6. Identify organization (Organization Breakdown Structure - OBS)
Don't use Gantt charts in the planning. Use PERT instead. This way you
don't focus too much of the finish date.
2. Project scheduling
2.1. Solve workload problems
2.2. Solve dependencies problems
2.3. Solve duration problems
2.4. Solve cost problems
2.5. Minimalize uncertaincy (risk)
Workload histograms, Gantt charts, Critical Path Method, Monte Carlo
simulations, S-curve etc.
3. Project progress
3.1. Work done on task
3.2. Estimated work to complete task
3.3. Ressource changes
3.4. Dependency changes between tasks
3.5. Changes in external dependencies
4. Project controlling
4.1. Solve workload problems
4.2. Solve dependicies problems
4.3. Solve duration problems
4.4. Solve cost problems
4.5. Identify focus tasks
Workload histograms, Gantt charts, Critical Path Method, Monte Carlo
simulations, S-curve etc.
5. Project finish
5.1. Analyse project data for experience data
Database with task and ressource information to be used in future
project planning.
My native language is Danish so some of the terms are not the correct ones
in English.
