Right. I usually go with black background so the shadow is not visible
there and it only looks like wasted space when trying to use 0px.

Changing the thumbnail grid proportion doesn't seem to reset the cache
(nor warn about it). Manually resizing the grid & building the
thumbnail cache did solve the problem.(I have a smaller test set here
so generating the thumbs doesn't now take hours ;)

Yes, seems to be fixed by resizing the grid.
