[KPhotoAlbum] KPhotoAlbum 4.1.1 crashes very frequently on Kubuntu 10.04 (lucid)

Thanks for the suggestion.  I
 "upgraded" to the SVN version. I started KPhotoAlbum, displayed all the thumbnails, then started selecting some (which I intended to delete). As I was doing this, after I had just selected another image, the KPhotoAlbum crashed. I submitted an error report (does
LWP 12985 identify the report?) and restarted. This time it crashed immediately following the splash screen, but when I tried to submit a report, it said that there was not enough information to be useful. This is what it said about the crash:

#yiv2143100719 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407 p, #yiv2143100719 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407 li {white-space:pre-wrap;}
Application: kphotoalbum (SVN)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5)
Qt Version: 4.6.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-27-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

 -- Backtrace:
Application: KPhotoAlbum (kphotoalbum), signal: Aborted
[Current thread is 1 (Thread 0x7f10f7e8d7c0 (LWP 12984))
#yiv2143100719 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407yiv1505824845 p, #yiv2143100719 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407 #yiv2143100719yiv2101989407yiv1505824845 li {white-space:pre-wrap;}
Every time I tried to restart, it did the same thing.

Using Synaptic, I then completely removed KPA, then disabled the PPA repository and reinstalled KPA 4.1.1 so I am at least back to where I was before.
Any other hints?
Thanks,
Murray

The development version is available from svn and
 has some crashes fixed. KPA web pages have instruction of downloading and compiling:
http://kphotoalbum.org/index.php?page=download-svn

http://kphotoalbum.org/index.php?page=compile

There is also a PPA repository with more recent version of KPA packaged for Ubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/~dominik-stadler/+archive/ppa

The crash can be analyzed from a backtrace if you are able to provide one. However, the newer version might already solve your problem (the latest crash sounds like it might be an exif parsing bug that was recently fixed).

I find that KPhotoAlbum seems to crash regularly on my system. Is there a more stable version that I should be using? If so, what and how do I get it?

I cannot see any specific pattern to the crashes. The most recent time, I had deleted some duplicate photos from the hard drive. I then asked it to rescan for photos and videos. It died. When I restarted, it was like starting from scratch. Whatever database had been created seemed to have been lost so it had to rebuild it.

There are over 6,000 photos in the directory and its sub-directories.  I am using KPhotoAlbum 4.1.1 using KDE Development Platform 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5) on Kubuntu 10.04, which is the version which seems to be the latest in the repository.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Murray
