[KPhotoAlbum] Exporting just pictures

I want to select a bunch of pictures in my kpa 3.1.1 to write to a CD or
flash drive to take or send to someone who doesn't have kpa.

How can I do this best?

I figured out the following kludge:
Export the photos without thumbnails to a .kim file (internal option)
Open the .kim file with ark (or similar) and extract the pictures
and, optionally, delete the index file and rename the .kim file to a
.zip file.

I don't want to explain this to my significant end user.  There must be
an easier way.
