[KPhotoAlbum] merging two index.xml files... how?

Hi guys,
I  am trying to figure out of if the following is possible.

I have a fairly large image collection.  And I am falling behind on 
organizing/tagging my images.  What I want to do is, use my commute time 
on the train (and may be some downtime at the office) to tag images 
using my laptop.  But my laptop doesn't have the space to contain my 
entire image collection.  So what I want to do is
	- carry only the most recent images (say last 2 months) in my laptop
	- use KPA to tag them
	- when I get home, sync the image collection
	- and 'merge' my tags from laptop to the main index.xml

I know KPA has an 'import' feature.  Will it tackle this problem?

Plan B, is to buy USB drive big enough to contain my image collection 
and use RSYNC.  But I prefer the first solution.
