Yep, that's pretty obvious, isn't it.  At least if you actually look at the 
LDFLAGS setting that worked.

File a bug report against Ubuntu's exiv2 package, I think.  The fact that the 
exiv2 program from the package is broken should make it pretty easy to 
reproduce.
