I've noticed that occationally the search and/or configure single/multiple images
dialogs will reset back to only having one search criteria.  I have to do show all,
then rearrange, then save layout, and it'll stick for a while.  Not sure why/when, but
sometimes later it'll get reset again.  Look at the bottom of the windows for "show
all panes" or such, I suspect this is what has happened to you.

Personally I rarely use the search unless I'm grouping terms..  Generally it's easier
to click through the main interface for a subject.
