I'm using KDE 4.5 on Kubuntu 10.04, 

Facebook:
Contact avatars from Facebook (via jabber protocol) are flakey, and don't
always load for all contacts - where a contact avatar fails to load, the user
can cause it to load by selecting 'user information', then the missing avatar
loads.

Yahoo!:
Avatar support not functioning, not possible to choose avatar, not shown in
user information.

Windows Live Messenger:
Avatar support functioning correctly.

GaduGadu: 
No avatar support - see: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=210059

Skype:
No avatar support (but API means it should now be possible - Pidgin has it).
