In Ubuntu Lucid Stephan Wienczny reported:

When you have a contact with a big avatar image, this image is shown in the
notification window without being resized. So there can be 400x600 images in
this window. This is too big. Kopete should scale the image down to a sane
size.
I experienced this with another xmpp user.
