I can confirm this.

This is also true when a chat message is actively opened with the "view" button
in the notification.

The notification even stays totally open (with just the two buttons removed),
when I click "ignore".

The pile up in the recent-messages stack is also worsen by all the "user xyz
has gone online" notifications that should also be completely deleted (at least
optionally).
