Unless there is any evidence to the contrary, I would guess it is safe to
assume that these are either the same problem, or are closely related. 

Though in the original report it is happening after 8 minutes (8 pings), and
I'm experiencing a disconnect after a random period of about 30.

I think you can't. They don't seem to be supported. You can configure it to
send white space characters to the client, which is a different thing, though.
