So, since the feature is already there, you can close this bug report, if you'd
like.
The remaining part seems to be to just improving the UI.

As a suggestion there: for me the intuitive way would be to right click on the
tab and then activating an option there, just like you can detach a tab. So
basically right click -> "Move terminal to new split view" would do the same
thing that dragging the header to a tab does, activating the split selection.
