Well, there is another important condition I did not notice: ibus is used as
the input method platform and is running. If ibus is not running, the steps
metioned in comment #7 does not work as expected. 

Here is my environment variables related with ibus:

export XMODIFIERS="@im=ibus"
export GTK_IM_MODULE="ibus"
export QT_IM_MODULE="ibus"
