In KDE 4 all instances of Konsole run in a single process by default.  When
Konsole is stable, as it is for the majority of users, this is not a problem
and it allows easier sharing of resources and faster startup of secondary
instances.

You can force a konsole to start a new process by starting it from a terminal -
in which case it has to use a new process so that it inherits the environment
from the terminal.
