No, the options serve different needs.  Some (mainly older) terminal applications rely on having terminal windows of a certain character size.  Some users like their terminals to be a certain size fixed size (typically 80x40 or 132x40).   This is a requirement which is specific to the terminal.  

I'm not sure who exactly wants to see the pixel geometry of every window when it is resized but I certainly do not.
