Yes, that is definitely easy to do, but that will only work in the shell.  If for example you are pasting a block of text into Vim from another source then it would require the user to go back and edit the text afterwoulds to reproduce the new lines.

One possibility might be to make pasting with a substitution of new lines for semicolons or backslashes the default, and add a "Paste Special..." menu option which allows the user to control the behaviour on a case-by-case basis.
