I tested at work, and the only way I found to test that was to prevent program from reading this input plugin by:
chmod 000 /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/libqscim.so
and launch a konsole, I had lot of warning about the problem loading this lib but the transparency worked fine then
