Subject: font antialiasing does not work correct
From: Salewski at PHYSnet.Uni-Hamburg.de

Package: konsole
Version: Konsole 1.0.2 (using KDE 2.2.1 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: SuSE 7.3 fresh installation

Hello,

two weeks ago I have made a clean install of SuSE-Linux 7.3.
Now I have activated "Font Antialiasing" in KDE-Control-Center.
In most KDE-Programs Font_Antialiasing works great.
In Control-Center I have selected "BitStream Charter 11",
and in Konquerer, KWord or KMail all looks very nice.
But there is a problem with Konsole, KEdit, KWrite and Kate:
If I select "BitStream Charter 11" as font for the body of
KEdit, KWrite or Kate, then the characters in the body-text
overlapp.  With font "Courier" there is no problem.
With Konsole characters overlapp too by default, I have
to use --noxft to fix it. Konsole has the additional problem
that it is not possible to select custom fonts.

I have not noticed these problems with SuSE 7.1,
XFree 4.1 and a KDE-Version installed 3 months ago from SuSE.

I dont think this can be a problem of my Hardware or my X-Server,
because Konqueror, KWord and KMail looks ok, menutext is ok
in all programs, the problem is only bodytext!

My graphic card:
Matrox G450

Best regards

  Stefan Salewski
