It does work in gnome-terminal though.

XFree 4.2.0. I tested with 4.1.0 also.

I use 'XTerm (XFree 4.x.x)'. If I try 'Linux console' I get '~' when I press 
home or end. XTerm '(XFree86 3.x.x)' acts similiar to 'Linux console'.
