I'm a bit confused here, as QIF files are plain text.  Can you show the
exact message you get, ideally launching from the console by
entering 'kmymoney', without quotes.  If that gives the error, try
'kmymoney -n', to launch with no input file specified.

You are trying to import the file/s, rather than opening them, I hope?
