We need more details to duplicate this. Here's what I did:

Create a new transaction in (asset) account denominated in EUR. Start editing
splits. Create a new split. Add a value in deposit. Navigate to category.
Select a category denominated in USD -> Exchange rate dialog pops up. Press
Enter/OK. Navigate to deposit. Press * -> Calculator pops up. Save split. Edit
it again. Navigate to deposit. Press * -> Calculator pops up.

Can you provide a backtrace from a breakpoint in
NewSplitEditor::Private::amountChanged() right before
KCurrencyCalculator::updateConversion() is called when you press * in your
case? KMyMoney symbols would be great to have.
