Interesting behaviour!  After having saved the KMyMoney database using the
Lubuntu installation mentioned in Comment 3, my Fedora installation follows
suit and allows entering accented characters.  Whatever has triggered that...

I shall keep an eye on it for a while and will hopefully close the case soon.
