Cannot enter new investment. Ubuntu 18.04 / 5.0.0

The version mismatch is a known problem. You then have 5.0.1.

No, apparently this is a problem of the KMyMoney version that came with 18.04 and has nothing to do with 18.04 itself. A new install will not help. I think it has been fixed in the meantime but don't find a reference to a documented bug right now.

Here's what you can try:

a) Make a backup of your data in case anything goes wrong
b) Download the KMyMoney appimage from https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/KMyMoney_Nightly_Appimage_Build/
   This contains a nightly build of the master branch.
c) Make the file executable with "chmod +x kmymoney--.....appimage"
d) Execute it with "./kymoney--....appimage" from a terminal
e) Check if the problem persists or not and report back
f) Make the necessary changes and save the file
g) Check if your installed version still works
