zcat would actually output the content of the xml file on your screen. How did
you deduce that it has been created on the 10th of January? Does zcat actually
produce some output?
Judging by the size of the kmy or extracted xml file do you think that you
still have some data.

If that's gone and you don't have a backup I'm afraid that there's nothing to
do.

Although reading your description I still could not figure it out how that
could happen.
