I just want to add my opinion here:
> The questions are here:
> 1) do we want other modes that IDEA?
I think it depends on the needed effort. In general I would say that we should
try to keep different modes, maybe not all of them. I am not aware about any
reliable information about how many users are using which mode, so I guess if
we drop modes we will get unknown amount of complains here. Personally I am
using IDEA but I also see that the other modes have their own advantages.
> 2) do we want docked/undocked toolviews?
Yes, definitely.
> 3) do we need 4-th border toolview (topmost)?
Well for completness I would say yes, even if I never saw it used anywhere.
Now when I am thinking about it I can imagine cases in Quanta where someone
would like to have it. Showing the preview on top of the document would be a
case.
> 4) do we need to have several widgets inside one toolview
> (splitted horisontaly or vertically)?
Correct me if I am wrong, I think a splitter would be a widget we can pass to
toolview. If this is true the applications should handle these special cases
and the library should stay simple.
> 5) do we need splitted views in the main areas?
AFAIK Kate does it and Quanta too. But I don't know how much of code
duplication can be reduced by moving this feature in the library. So I
incline to let this stay in the application level.
