The biggest hurdle is usually getting Krita built. We have guides here:

After that, depending on preferences, take either a look at 
plugins/python and check 
https://scripting.krita.org/lessons/introduction to see what's what. 
Implementing a feature you want in Python should be pretty easy! If 
you're into C++, check in on IRC and discuss what you'd like to do, 
there's a lot!
