and as we are a KDE project, we might consider support for KImageIO 
( http://developer.kde.org/documentation/library/3.3-api/kio/html/classKImageIO.html), 
which provide the most usefull file format, and then add a separate filter 
for other format, relying on any external library but which would be 
optional, removing a dependency .
