implement kMin/kMax properly.

Hi, 

I've sent this patch a few months ago already, but it wasn't merged. Maybe 
I'll have better luck this time :)

It implements kMin/kMax which we use in our tree. if you decide to finally 
merge it, I'll send you another patch that does s,QMAX,kMax, and s,QMIN,kMin, 
so that the diff gets smaller and one is easier able to spot the changes you 
did in your tree.
