Bug 181437 was reported in 2009, I do not remember what was my default file
manager at that time, probably not Dolphin.

Yes, I expect that the row is selected, not the file opened.

I've seen the space on the left and I think that it's not very intuitive, to be
usable you need to enlarge the empty zone but then you waste a lot of space on
the screen.

Well, definitely not.
This is one of those "I tried to get used to it but I hate it more and more
with each passing day, the time has come to look for a new file manager"
things.
