That's the way it was before. But per Bug 181437, a lot of people didn't like
it, and it was inconsistent with other list views. The fact that hovering over
a row highlights the whole row now should make it pretty obvious that something
will happen when you click.
You can still drag-select by clicking and dragging up or down, so that
shouldn't be a problem.
If you're looking for a place to click to deselect items, we deliberately added
some space to the left and right of the list that you can use. You can also hit
the Escape key to deselect everything.
I think this is one of those "try it and see if you can get used to it, and I
bet you'll actually like it" things.
