kde3: You "just" need to write a kimgio module (see kdelibs/kimgio), and then to add
the mimetype in imagethumbnail.desktop  (kdebase/kioslave/thumbnail/, or directly
in your installed file).

kde4: same thing but with QImageIOHandler instead of kimgio (although you can still
find examples in kdelibs/kimgio)
