Apologies for the reply to self. I'll try to save some replies:
When a program copies a file from the network or from a local disk, it
should display the same values. So Network transfer speed should use the same
metrics as disk read/write speed (which should (?) use the same metrics as
Disk size). So, either the network transfer speeds should use 1024b == 1Kb or
the disk size should use 1000b=1kb.
Also, whenever something is measured in bits, it should use the
1Kbit==1000bit ratio, or there will be bug reports.
