reporting bugs as an ordinary user

the problem is not machines with the last stable version on it, it's having
the time to do the checking.

usually in a commercial setting there's an entire department dedicated to
this: QA. they go through all defect reports and test against versions and
then send fully researched slips to the developer so that the dev only has to
deal with the exact fix.

having a QA team within KDE would be nice but people just don't step up to do
this task. instead they belly ache and moan that they aren't a developer but
that developers don't fix bugs fast enough or in older versions.

(side note: perhaps there will be a business opportunity there at some point)

if we did have a QA dpt then we'd still need the dev time to do the fixes.
this is a smaller problem, but still part of the realities at hand. it really
annoys me how one group of users bitch and moan about how kde4 isn't coming
quick enough while the other group bitches and moans about support of kde
3.3. it has become a damned-if-you-and-damned-if-you-don't situation.

the -real- solution to this is having users step up and help out in a
meaningful way with QA. either that or someone start a commercial enterprise
that takes money from those who use kde to fund a QA department. either way,
that's the big hole missing here for us, IMHO.
