wierd konqueror problem

Update on the wierd problem where konqueror will
switch to original size when clicking on a tab:

The problem appears to be related to the video mode
selected.

I notice that I can maximize to the size of the
complete screen in 1024x768 (which is what I'm
running) but then when clicking on a tab, the window
resizes to what would be the maximized window size for
800x600.  

changes I make to the "resize and rotate" quicklaunch
app don't seem to fix this though.

Ideas?
