Tested on the branch. Yippieh! It works! Thanks for fixing this nasty 
regression. Please backport.

I also tested kdvi (setting: embedded): works
application/postscript in kghostview (setting: external): works

Btw, is it true that no confirmation dialogs appear for local files?

Oh yeah, this is because I'm not using my production environment for testing. 
I have a dedicated environment which I compiled kghostview for, and didn't 
bother to explicitly set acroread ;-).
