Choosing View modes

As suggested by Aaron, here is a small sumary of the discussion on
kde-usability. Please not that we can still use the 2 solutions, it is just a
matter of choosing the right defaults.

Benoit.

Arguments to keep the current behavior:
- casual user can switch between icon view and list view (and doesn't even
have to bother about the drop down menu), while the power user can switch to
fancier modes at will
- need to switch between list view and icon view quite frequently
- showing all view modes in 1 menu makes the choice more difficult

Arguments against current behavior (and for using a single popup button which
opens without delay):
- 4 to 7 buttons: too much space for something that is done relatively rarely
- not obvious that buttons are all mutually exclusive modes
- not intuitive because some views are in non-instant drop down menus
- difficult to know the meaning of icons (especially for external viewers)
- inconsistent with the "View->View Modes" submenu
