Sorry, couldn't resist commenting on this :). Imo useless applets, those
that could be easily done with javascript/(image)movies, are long gone
(flash took its place).
Java _is_ usefull for all those (dating) chat boxes, fancy web games
(games.yahoo.com), science (like
http://skyandtelescope.com/observing/skychart/skychart.asp or
http://webphysics.davidson.edu/Applets/animator4/default.html) or other
utilities (like map24.com) on the web.
