There was. I can't remember exactly what the problem was (being at work with 
the mail conversation at home in KMail folders not easily accessible 
remotely...) but Marco followed up later that he could indeed reproduce the 
problem with non-KDE apps.

I kinda forgot that I forwarded this mail to you, so I never passed that on... 
*blush*. I'm sure Marco can tell you exactly what the problem was, so you can 
decide whether KDE can detect the problem at all and maybe have a decent GUI 
error around it. In itself it wasn't a KDE error though.
